moved!

to http://godchased.wordpress.com.

decided that it'd be easier to share it here. But there will friends-only entries protected by a password, so you'll need to get it from me.

just to reiterate, wordpress is more powerful than xanga. Hence the reason for leaving xanga behind. It's been good here but I'll still be writing. (just try and stop me)

do it like William Wallace

and say "FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDOOOOMMMM!"

at least for two weeks, anyway. Which I'll spend doing readings. Oh well.

the studies have been going good so far. I've been getting average grades which was quite disappointing and surprising at first, but it'll get better. God will still work things out for my good, and it isn't good grades that will guarantee quality of life or anything like that, but it's Jesus that gives us that guarantee.

well anyway I know was supposed to write at my new address but I think I'll construct a proper post before doing so. It's kind of a miracle that I finished the assignment in a day because I was running a fever, blocked nose and sore throat, along with a malevolent throbbing in my head. The sickness came on me in the middle of the night when I woke up with teeth chattering despite having my comforter swathed around me - which is quite a funny sight actually, now that I think of it! Otherwise I'd be out of the house now to catch Flags Of Our Fathers.

i actually wanted to go down to Orchard Road to take pictures of the Christmas lights (I don't know why but the whim just came to me this morning) and get a copy of the Desolation Jones TPB from Kino for my elder brother as a Christmas and birthday present (which is today, but he's in London). I still have a ton of stuff to do by Christmas, but it's a fun kind of hectic; the kind of situation you don't mind being in because, well, it's Christmas!

i hope to get started in using my dad's old-school cameras soon. ZK's been kind enough to agree to help me get started so I want to make full use of my two free weeks before the next semester begins.

and right now I'm headed out to Parkway to buy ingredients for tomorrow's attempt to make edible pasta and some other Christmas stuff. And I have to go down to IKEA to buy furniture before the dinner at Darrell's.

busy, busy, busy!

called to make history

just got back from HM6ix. Exhausted and exhilirated with a 2000 word essay due tomorrow, but still I rejoice at how good and faithful Abba has been.

i've been thinking of this for a while, but I think that I'll be shifting my blog to another location. The reason is more an issue of technical customisation rather than anything else. While there are some interesting features offered in Xanga, the site I'm moving to allows a greater deal of freedom in developing and expanding the blog if necessary, and allows password-protected entries (compared to Xanga's rather stifling Protected status) too!

email/msn/sms me if you want the new address :)

Currently Listening
The Gift
By Corrinne May
see related
she's my Mary Jane

just watched the first two Spider-Man films after writing about the second film in one of my essays, as I mentioned before.

i got all choked up and teary-eyed when I watched the scene where Spider-Man saves all the people in the speeding train which was going to plunge into the river, after Doc Ock ruins the brakes. Spidey, unmasked, and completely exhausted, was falling forward from the train and into the river before the people in the train grab him and pull him back. They then hoist him into the train, lifting him together with raised arms, almost reverently.

truly a great cinematic moment for Spidey fans everywhere. Can't wait for the third film in 2007!

"The great thing about M.J. is when you look in her eyes, and she's looking back in yours, everything feels not quite normal, because you feel stronger, and weaker at the same time. You feel excited, and at the same time, terrified. The truth is you don't know what you feel, except you know what kind of man you want to be. It's as if you've reached the unreachable, and you weren't ready for it." - Peter Parker, in Spider-Man

tl;dr

Corrinne May concert tonight! Third row even! *beams*

actually, I more or less felt like slinking home after work to crash rather than go for the concert. The past few days have been hectic, and one thing I've learned is that while you can plan things to death in advance, just one minor variation in your "plan" will result in the rest of it going out of the window.

i thought I'd have relative peace in the house when my elder brother left for reservist duty, so I decided to work through Wednesday night on my essay since I get distracted easily, and require peace and quiet to be able to focus properly (which needs to be worked on) on a task that can get tedious at times. However, my brother got a "night off" for passing his IPPT so that means early lights out in the room! I can't really use the living room because my mum would be watching her dramas and my sister's room is unfit for human habitation.

thursday: I get interrupted every fifteen minutes because my mum is doing last minute packing for her London trip. I can barely finish a few sentences of the essay before being called to run an errand. That's fine; I help whenever I can. So when she and my sister finally leave, it's near 3 o'clock and I'm barely started on the essay. Soon after I'm due to meet D for a swim (as I was supposed to be finished with the essay by then) and he bullies me into buying dinner at Burger King even though there's only about 10 minutes to my driving lesson. I stash the takeaway into my bag and go for a leisurely drive around Eunos and Bedok with a very amusing instructor; I was actually taking the requisite auto-car lesson so he let me drive for about an hour or so before we practised a bit at parking.

when I get home, it's about eleven at night and I find that the coke has leaked through the paper bag and made my mushroom swiss very soggy. Absolutely heartbreaking. Good thing the paper bags were placed inside a plastic bag, or I would've been devastated. I nuke the soggy burger and fries in the microwave and have my late dinner, which wasn't too bad actually. Zesty!

and so I work through the night, nursing a few mugs of coffee, and I'm finally done at dawn. I was writing an analysis of the Spider-Man 2 film media campaign, and it really got me eager to watch the films again. So I dug out my DVD of Spider-Man and watched about a good hour of it before deciding I was way too tired and snuck into bed at around 8am. I woke up around 2pm, and spent a few hours polishing up and formatting the essay. I was very intent on completing it as quickly as possible so I could go for a proper swim (spent most of the time talking with D the day before - it happens) and finish up my last bits of Christmas shopping.

speaking of shopping - it's really true what they say about men and shopping; we plan what we want to buy, have a clear idea what we're going to get, go there, get it, and then leave. We choose the most expedient path and whatever gets us out of there as quickly as possible.

i decided to get myself a (few) Christmas present(s) as well:

some dude-lit - nothing like swords and sorcery to keep a guy captivated. (though Anansi Boys isn't technically a fantasy novel - Gaiman is intensely popular because of his work on The Sandman comics)

Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and Ang Lee's Eat Drink Man Woman.

after that it was some time at a cafe with coffee and reading a couple of chapters off one of my new books. Later in the evening I met up with D and S for few drinks at D's place and playing Halo 2 (S and I make a good team blowing aliens away). We end up hanging out until 3am, before I harangued S into letting me drive his car back to my place. I was quite touched that he said he trusted me enough to do so.. :) Managed to park the car properly too! We had a cup of teh at the kopitiam before he drove home, and I finally got into bed after 4am and woke up three hours later for work.

this is why I feel the need to crash. And also because I feel mysterious pains in my back and knees. And sorry if you had to wade through an entire post of inane rambling. Heh.
